About, 1947: Brexit India
This is a 2 hour film, narrated by Boman Irani. The film explores the events leading upto India’s Independence from British.
Directed by Sanjivan Lal and written by acclaimed screenwriter Shama Zaidi, the documentary argues that Britain’s exit from India was influenced not only by political developments but also by severe economic pressures following the Second World War. According to the filmmakers, the project is based on more than a decade of archival research and seeks to present what they describe as an “economic audit” of the British Empire in India.
After a very successful premier in Delhi on May 31, 2026 presided by Chief Guest, Hon. Dr. Shashi Tharoor, it is being released for viewing for worldwide audience on OTT platforms, Amazon Prime Video, You Tube TV and Apple TV in July of 2026.
